UK car sales down
The sales of new cars decreased last month in the UK to the lowest ever August level since 1966. Mere 63,225 new cars were sold which is 18.6% down on August 2007, and following a downwards trend this year so far. Sales of city cars doubled up on the other hand and sales of super minis increased to 33.8% of the total market, suggesting buyers’ changes to more fuel-efficient vehicles. Diesels have now reported for 43.2% of all sales so far this year; the Volkswagen Golf is the best-selling diesel in the UK.
Top-sellers of last month are:
Vauxhall Cora (3,527),
Ford Focus (2,933),
Vauxhall Astral (2,535),
Golf (2,427),
Ford Fiesta (2,212),
Vauxhall Safire (1,767),
BMW 3-Series (1,466),
Citroen C4 (1,367),
Ford Mondeo (1,342)
Peugeot 207 (1,342).
August is normally a slow month for sales anyhow, as many buyers choose to wait for the new number plate in September, but car sales are still anticipated to fall by 10% in the last four months of the year.
