Euro NCAP: Whiplash test results
Euro NCAP has tested 25 popular vehicles to review the security they offer against neck and spinal injuries continued in rear-end crashes.
So-called ‘whiplash’ injuries – the result of the head snapping backwards or forwards – account for most personal-injury insurance claims, and are said to cost the European economy billions of euros each year in lost working time.
Worryingly, Euro NCAP claims that 80% of the front seats tested ‘need improvement’, with just five of the 25 rating a ‘good’ result.
Euro NCAP notes that the C5, Kuga and 308 CC are all cars which achieved a five-star rating for overall adult occupant testing in its programme earlier this year.
