Nissan pulls out of Detroit Motor Show

Nissan has pulled out of the 2009 Detroit Motor Show – just eight weeks away – in a bid to save money.

The proclamation follows similar decisions by Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Land Rover, Ferrari and Rolls-Royce. Porsche pulled out of the 2008 show and won’t attend the 2009 event either.

Nissan is the largest of the non-attendees: it sold over a million Nissan and Infiniti-branded vehicles in the US last year and holds 9.6% of the US car market.
However, it has already shown most of its upcoming new models for 2009: the Nissan 370Z Coupe, Cube mini-MPV and Infiniti G37 Convertible were on display last week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, leaving little to be unveiled or announced in Detroit.

Nissan has also decided not to attend the Chicago Auto Show later in the spring.
